the recorder in the 3rd grade includes learning the notes g, a,
and b. Recorders are then used throughout the rest of the year
as an additional instrument and timbre when learning and performing
music.

Melody:
Mi, Re, Do, tonal center, steps, skips, leaps, repeated notes,
indicate melodic direction from notation, identify pitches (g,
a, b) on the staff by letter name.
Rhythm: Quarter note,
quarter rest, paired eighth notes, half note, dotted half, whole
rest.
Form: AB, ABA, identifying phrases,
rounds, echo (call / response).
Expressive Qualities: Forte, piano,
tempo, legato, staccato, ties.
• Demonstrate reading
of standard symbolic notation.
• Name symbols of rhythmic values.
• Experience aurally, kinesthetically,
and symbolically rhythms used (see above).
• Experience and read songs in 2/4,
3/4, and 4/4.
• Practice, read, perform rhythm

Purpose: To learn recorder basics.
The recorder will be used as an additional musical tool and timbre
choice to learn musical concepts listed above and musical concepts
in the future.
